Course Description

This qualification reflects the role of Offsiders and is aimed at people who work in the drilling industry. Students will develop their knowledge and skills completing a set range of routine tasks and procedures. The students will work under the supervision of an experienced Driller but will have some responsibility for the quality of the work they produce.

They will learn WHS and environmental principles along with all aspects of drilling operations including:

  • Communication
  • Isolation
  • Pre-start inspections
  • Risk assessment
  • Loading and operating vehicles
  • Setting up/packing up site
  • Sampling

Delivery Method

This qualification reflects the role of Drillers and is aimed at people who work in the drilling industry. Students will develop their knowledge and skills completing tasks that involve a broad range of skilled applications that are applied in a wide variety of contexts and may involve some discretion and judgement in the selection of equipment, services, or contingency measures.

They will not only learn how to operate the drill, but also learn how to:

  • Maintain a safe work environment
  • Train and manage their drill crews
  • Conduct pre-start inspections
  • Communicate with the client
  • Run on-site operations
  • Conduct maintenance
  • Set up the work site
